It was once said by a 5-year-old John Lennon, when asked by his teacher at school, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” in which he replied, “happy”. The teacher told him; “he didn’t understand the assignment” in which he replied’ “they didn’t understand life.”
Happiness is one of the keys to a good life, and as we strive to pursue this happiness, we forget, it is simpler than that, the happiness is already inside us, waiting to come out. It may be hidden by many life stories and events, yet underneath, it is always there, just as the sun is in the sky on a rainy day, we may not see it, but it is always there.
So, what then creates the happiness we desire? Well, there are some simple truths to discovering this… we want “Aliveness – to feel the day vibrantly in all its glory, perhaps through adventure, passion, curiosity, joy, living more consciously, aware and open… ”, to feel “Connection – with ourselves and others – deep, authentic connection, with love, respect, appreciation, belonging, a richness that is important” and to have “Meaningful pursuits, things that matter to us, that give us a sense of meaning and fulfillment, worthy of our time” and “Growth towards becoming our fuller, more authentic selves”. Each brings us to a happier state of life experience, thus the pathway to self-improvement, actually opens us back to our happy selves.
